Baby Rabbits

As if we didn't already have enough pets in the Harvey household, (in case you have forgotten or don't already know... we have 4 cats, two rabbits, two Guinea pig, 1 hamster and a tankful of fish) our two rabbits (Louis and Thumper) have decided that the time is right to have some little baby bunnies. I don't remember them asking my permission to go ahead and have baby rabbits but it seems to be a little too late to mention that now. It's hard to see much on this picture... but there are at least three little bunnies hiding in this hay. Two black ones and one white one we think.
All being well I will keep on adding pictures of the baby bunnies so that you can see how they grow.

Aaaah! Who can resist baby animals. I shall look forward to watching them growing up. Will you keep them to add to you menagerie?
Dare I ask who cleans out all the hutches and cages etc? It was always a battle when my three were young and we had a couple of pet rabbits called Binkle and Flip. Can't imagine where we got those names from, but I think they must have been Enid Blyton characters!

Yes, I think they will be added to the menagerie. The two Guinea Pigs are quite old so we're expecting to have an empty hutch in the not too distant future.

We plan on keeping the population under control though as we don't want them breading like... welll rabbits.

Lorraine (my wife) and I cleaned them out last night so that tells all doesn't it.

In the past, when my children were young, we also had all of those little animals and fish, (apart from the hamster), but never had any babies. How exciting! I can't wait to see the photo's of them growing. I shall keep coming back:0)

We've had baby hamsters, Guinea Pigs and cats before but this is the first time we've had baby rabbits.

They seem much more fragile than the other baby animals we've had. They're born without hair and still haven't left the nest that their mother made for them - we're expecting them to become a bit more visible soon.

Baby guinea pigs are charging around the hutch almost straight away.

Hello, our rabbits were ment to be both female, we were not expecting any! we relised are grey one was shredding fur but we were looking after my uncles rabbits to but they were on the bottom of our double story hutch with wood to partition it off so we thought she was having a fansty pregnacty or something were not to sure when she had them but don't rabbits do it strait after shes had her litter? would you think she could be having another litter? But The baby rabbits are fine we think they must be about a week old, what stage would they be at, they ave no fur yet, or they havn't opened their eyes? the mother doesn't seem to be in with them that much is that normal?what age do they start moving around the hutch? thank you x

Yes, it was a bit of a surprise when ours had babies too. I'm not an expert on baby rabbits so I'm probably not going too be much help here but if I remeber correctly... our ittle baby rabbits started hoping around the hutch when they were about four weeks old. I think that by the time they are around six or seven weeks old they start to feed themselves instead of being fed by their mother.

We didn't really do anything special to take care of the baby rabbit -the mother really just wanted us to leave her to it so that's what we did apart from making sure that we provided extra food and water so that the mother had plenty to eat.

Sadly, baby rabbits often die - so we didn't end up with as many babies as we had expected.

You could try having a look round on the internet for advice on looking after baby rabbits - or perhaps borrow a book from the library.

Good luck :-)

Hello, my rabbit had babys last month, she has had some more we dont breed them or anything, will she feed both litters ?

Hello - sorry that I didn't see your comment earlier.
I am afraid I am not much help with baby rabbits as we don't really bread them either. I do know that the mother will feed both liters if she can but it might be very hard for her if there are too many. Sadly, nature has it's own way of dealing with this and only the strongest rabbits will survive.
I hope they do well though...

Hi... they are very cute aren't they. It can be hard looking after the baby rabbits somtimes as they eat quite a lot of food as they get older and need lots of room to run around. We managed to find someone that wanted a rabbit so now we've just got the two adult rabbits.
